We’ve had a banner year so far at Rancho Las Cascadas. More friends than ever, old and new, have joined us from around the world. We’ve recently had guests from Japan and have seen an influx of visitors from Australia. Word must really be getting out about our great horses and riding!
We are very thankful for all of our guests, but want to give a shout out to the airliners from Lufthansa, KLM and British Airways who have flocked to the Rancho this year during their layovers in Mexico City. With all the options the big city has to offer, we are so grateful they continue to choose to spend their days off in our relaxing mountain oasis.
The staff at the Rancho is doing well. Jenny, Vale, and Lalo have been doing a great job keeping things running smoothly from day to day. As my time has been diverted to other projects this year, they have all taken on more responsibility and have really grown as leaders.
There are a few new faces at the Rancho this year. Juanita joined Mayte, Kenya, and Gisella to help with housekeeping and cooking duties. Miguel (who had been working in maintenance) became a wrangler earlier in the year and was joined by Carlos Lorenzo and Oscar a few months later. They are all learning the ropes and fitting in nicely. Carlos and Kenya have really been practicing their English and are getting more fluent every day!
All of the horses are happy and healthy. Amigo, a young and energetic stallion, joined us in mid-December 2014. He is already a smooth and comfortable ride, but we’re excited to watch him grow. He’s sure to be even more spectacular as he matures. The wranglers have been training him to be a lead horse. His confidence is growing and he is doing very well.
Corozon Valiente, who has only been with us for one year, is settling into the heard and moving up in status. The boys have given him a lot of attention, so he’s in great shape and is starting to show us his true spirit! He is an amazing ride for advanced riders.
We’re excited to welcome a new litter of puppies soon. Maggie, who joined us at the Rancho in April, is due in mid-August. Doris, our new office kitten, also joined the team recently. She is only nine weeks old and her job is to deliver cuddles and kisses to the busy office staff when things start getting hectic!
As always, there have been a lot of updates to the Rancho itself this year. The kitchen has been upgraded with new sinks and a new oven. The main office was renovated to help increase productivity. The spa room was moved because we needed more space for overnight guests. And just last week, we replaced all of the cushions on the sun beds around the pool; they are now a colorful turquoise sure to brighten your day.
I opened Mansion San Miguel in the beautiful colonial city of San Miguel de Allende on May 1st. This was definitely a dream come true for me. Only two hours from the Rancho, guests can experience a different side of Mexico. Shopping, art galleries, fine dining, and beautiful outdoor parks are all found in abundance in this energetic and eclectic city.
Renovations to the Mansion are going well. Four of the rooms plus the kitchen have been completed and we are moving forward quickly with the others. Our first guests have really enjoyed the beautiful rooftop views and the Mansion’s close vicinity to the historic town center. We’re hoping to have an open house for all of the locals towards the end of the year so we can show off the renovations. We’re looking forward to actively participating in the community and making a lot of new friends.
Soon we will be begin preparing for upcoming celebrations. The Day of the Dead, which kicks off the holiday season at the end of October, will be here before we know it! We’re expecting a full house at the Rancho from October 28th – November 4th, and a busy two months to follow.
It has been a blessed year at Rancho Las Cascadas. Thank you to everyone who has made our success possible. We couldn’t do it without you.
We look forward to seeing you soon,
